Registered Nurse

The Endoscopy Center is looking for a full time Registered Nurse to work Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. This position will provide competent and professional nursing care for the Endoscopy Center patients, following established standards and practices. Applicate must have possession of an Arkansas RN license, current CPR certification, one year nurse experience, and good communication skills. Applicate must be versatile to float in pre-procedure, endoscopy lab and recovery area. Prefer applicate have one or more years of experience in endoscopy and/or PACU and Gastroenterology experience. POSITION - Staff Nurse in Endoscopy Center

MAIN FUNCTION - To provide competent and professional nursing care for the Endoscopy Center patients, following established standards and practices.

REPORTS TO - Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Manager

SUPERVISORY DUTIES - None

JOB DUTIES

Pre-procedure area:
- Have consent form and discharge instructions signed.
- Take and record vital signs.
- Ask pertinent questions for pre-procedure assessment, if not already done.
- Start IV and administer any pre-procedure medication, as ordered.
- Prepare patient for procedure

Recovery room
- Know all equipment and where it is kept.
- Monitor all vital signs and SaO2 and record every 15 minutes.
- Record any abnormal findings in nurse’s notes.
- Chart medication and IVs given in the recovery area.
- Record patient information in the recovery room log and the endoscopy log.
- Explain discharge information to patient and patient’s escort and obtain signatures on discharge instruction sheet.
- Discharge patient after they have been in the recovery area 30 minutes, if vital signs are stable, PAR score is 9-10, and patient is awake and able to take fluids (unless NPO).
- Clean stretchers and put clean linen in place after each patient.

• Procedure Room
- Know all equipment and where it is kept.
- Be sure all equipment works and know how it works.
- Prepare the room and equipment, stock supplies, as needed.
- Obtain and draw up medications to be given by the physician.
- Identify patient in pre-procedure and transport them to the procedure room; verify drug allergy history and presence of dentures, if necessary.
- Assist physician during procedures.
- Properly label and document specimens and place in designated area to be picked up by lab courier.
- Clean endoscopes according to policy and procedure after each patient.
- Clean endoscopes according to policy and procedure at the end of the day.
- Clean procedure room according to policy and procedure at the end of the day.

JOB SKILLS REQUIRED

• Prefer one or more years experience in endoscopy and/or PACU, but not essential for hire.
• Current CPR certification.
• Good communication skills.
• Must be versatile to float in pre-procedure, endoscopy lab and recovery area.

EDUCATION - Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

EXPERIENCE

• One-year nursing experience.
• Gastroenterology experience preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

• Possession of an Arkansas LPN or RN license
• Possession of current CPR certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Exposure to potentially toxic chemical disinfectants.
• Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, body fluids and infectious wastes.

EMOTIONAL FACTORS

• Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and efficient manor.
• Ability to reassure patients, making them feel comfortable and less anxious about the procedures.
• Ability to deal with problems as they arise concerning patients and co-workers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires standing, walking, and bending for long periods of time.
• Requires pulling/pushing patient carts, assisting patients on/off carts, and assisting patients to turn from side to side while sedated.
• Manual/finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
